When you’re moving away from Greenpoint, the best memento is to take a piece of it with you. So before they left town, for her husband Lawrence’s birthday, Julia gifted one of their favorite neighborhood scenes.
First, I always start with a wash of color…
Next comes a light charcoal sketch,
…followed by filling in all the darkest areas
I like to stretch the piece midway through my painting process
Then it goes back on the wall to add the highlights and finishing touches
